The Blog is Back (soon)

Hey everyone, sorry that this blog has not been as active as it should be.  We interns get pounded with so much work that we have no time for silly things like blogging (just kidding).  Anyways, the office has been a little crazy lately and there are a ton of new interns for the fall and winter so I think we can get this blog going again!  Videos and photos and more to come very soon!

Here’s a cool pic for your entertainment!

So bummed - Interns are leaving me.

As I write this post, I am frantically trying to pack for my 8AM flight out of Oakland Airport.  I am going on a great two-week vacation to Priest Lake, Idaho.  Tonight a bunch of the interns and some (former) diggterns went to a San Francisco Giants game to get together one last time before everyone goes back to school.  I am so bummed because everyone is leaving in the next few weeks while I am gone.  Basically, the 2008 Summer Interns kicked ass.  Straight up.  I am so proud to have worked with each and every one of them.  I really hope that all of you interns keep in touch with me, because I will sincerely miss your company while screwing around in the Revision3 office/studio. I love you all!

Giants Game!

p.s. please welcome Long Vo to InternRow. He is the new intern around these parts.

(p.p.s. I live here in SF so that is why I am staying…probably forever.)

UPDATE: I am not leaving Revision3, I am just going on vacation so i felt compelled to say goodbye to my lovely intern buddies!

iPhone 3G - To camp or not to camp?

Jul 9, 2008 Author: Tyler Howarth | Filed under: Office Happenings

As I sit here procrastinating on my homework (yes I am taking summer school),  I am pondering what to do for the iPhone 3G. Should I wake up at 5AM on Friday and head on down to the Downtown Apple Store? Should I camp out? Should I be worrying about this?

I am not so sure if I want to spend the night on the dirty streets of San Francisco for a phone that probably won’t be too hard to get a hold of.  The office has been buzzing about the iPhone 3G for the last week but overall I think we will just play it by ear.  Michael Benatar, Patrick Norton, Roger Chang and myself are pumped.  I mean straight up pumped.  Will you be camping out?

I’ll let you know what we are doing as soon as I know for sure what that is.  For now, just know that the Revision3 crew will be at the Downtown San Francisco Apple Store at 8AM on Friday July 11th.  We are getting iPhones.

Intern Cameos

Though some of us have only been here but a few weeks, viewers may have already noticed the intern-influence on some of the Revision3 shows.

Kelly Sutton has appeared on several popSiren pieces, most notably, his debut as an assistant/axe-murderer:

Victor Shwanke, production intern, appeared as a zombie on Internet Superstar: (Note: the still image on the player is not Victor Shwanke, as a zombie.)

Though I work for the most bit-part-ed show on Revision3, I’ve only earned a mention thus far on Internet Superstar. It was quite flattering nonetheless:

Keep an eye out for the interns as our entry-level quest continues…

What Makes a Great Internship: The Culture

The internship and culture

The most important aspect of an internship is the knowledge and general experience you walk away with at the end of your stint. If you fail to learn a thing, and at the same time hate your time spent with the company, then your internship was a complete and utter failure.

The co-workers

Within my first week here at Revision3 I have hung out with all of my fellow interns and have gotten to know nearly every employee within the company. Each and every individual working at Revision3 is super friendly and open to helping out. This connection within the company makes the whole internship program a more personal experience. If I were separated and disconnected from the rest of the group the experience would be far less enjoyable.

Opportunity

A big difference between a great internship and a horrible internship is opportunity. The fact that I feel as if my ideas and suggestions are actually listened to is a major plus. Rather than having my emails deleted or my voice muted, Revision3 makes sure to listen to and provide feedback. Living proof of this concept? This blog!

Outside of the office

Playing off of the enjoying the company of your co-workers, team chemistry building is another aspect of a wonderful internship. After work this past Friday a heap of the Revision3 crew (those 21+) went to a local bar to grab some beer and hang out. This weekend I grabbed dinner with two fellow interns and went out to a party with a few other full-time employees. The relationships within the office are not restricted to the office.

I want to work

The fact that I woke up this morning and was more than excited to get to the office is a clear sign that this is the type of internship that I will be getting value out of. If you love your work, then it really isn’t “work.”

What do you think?

What makes a great internship? What kind of things make a great culture?
